I was feeling totally overwhelmed the other day. I had a zillion things on my to-do list, as well as my freelance work, work on my business, looking after the baby, and household chores. I realized it was giving me a headache. I needed some Time Out.
(You know those days where you just say: “NO!”) So, I let myself take time off. I was fortunate enough to be at home, so I did nothing for a couple of hours. Absolutely nothing. I drank a few cups of tea, and watched the baby sleep. I mooched around… and thought… and sat in silence. It felt really good! And whenever I felt bad about doing this, I told myself: “This is necessary. I need to do this.” In essence, I took the pressure off myself. Time doing nothing often feels like a waste. But in fact, awesome things happen when you take time off! When you do what your heart wants, not what your brain tells you to do. We need silence at times! We need time to breathe. After I’d given myself permission to do absolutely nothing, I felt like doing a few tasks. So I did a few. And then I felt better. So I did a few more. With zero pressure. I wrote this blog post (I have SO many business ideas when I’m doing nothing!) A reminder for all of us:
Try it yourself! Give yourself a few hours off. Ignore that to-do list. Do nothing, if you need to. Because you come back stronger, and more coherent. More in control of your thoughts and actions. And it gives you a chance to realize what’s important. What’s important to me? Watching my baby sleep on his play mat, with his arms stretched out. Watching his little belly going up and down. What’s not important? My to-do list that never gets any shorter… and will likely always be there ;) How does that sound to you? Will you allow yourself to switch off... and do nothing? (If it feels scary, could be even more reason to try it!) With love, Claire

Thank you for the reminder. I'm going to sit down and have a cup of coffee and chill.:-)
