Quite a few people have joined the community recently, so I thought now might be a great time to explain where the name The Five Percent came from.
Let's rewind a few years, back to 2015... I’d just quit a job I hated to figure out what I really wanted to do with my life. As part of my self-care, I’d gone for a much-needed* massage.
(*Although, aren’t all massages much-needed?! :)
I was chatting with my massage therapist about the things I wanted to do now I’d quit my job. I talked about the progress I’d made, and the actions I’d taken.
At the end of our conversation, my massage therapist said to me:
“I’m so pleased to hear you’re taking action. I hear this SO rarely. People come and see me all the time, and talk about their hopes and dreams. But then they immediately give me all the reasons why they can’t do them.”
She continued that…
“The funny thing is that their answers are always the same! It’s either that they have kids, or they have a mortgage, or they have a job they can’t leave… it’s never an “out-there” reason.”
She went on to say that most people talk about their goals and dreams, but then make an excuse for not pursuing them.
And a tiny percentage – let’s say, 5% – actually decide to do something about them.
I found this so interesting… ALL of us have hopes and dreams, but only a few of us actually do anything about them!
Hence The Five Percent was born :)
For people who decide they want to create a life they love (not have it created for them by someone else).
[It’s not about being the 5% of richest people in the world, as one of my friends thought!]
It’s for people like you – people who are open to trying things out, making small changes, and taking that first step (even if you feel a bit nervous).
And my goal is to :
If you’re going after your goals and dreams, you’re AWESOME.
You’re an inspiration for other people.
And you're taking ownership and control of your life. Which is super powerful.
So here’s to you!
The “five percenters” :)
I’m so pleased to be on this journey with you.
And I’d love to hear in the comments: What are YOU working on? Who (or what) do you want to become?
We have novelists, bloggers, new business owners, and musicians… to name but a few!
Here’s to new adventures, and being the people we want to be :)
Til next time!
