The magical 'B' word: balance

I was looking at my son today, and thinking how much of being a mom is about balance.

I was watching him play, as he lined his cars up and made little “brrm, brrm” noises, and I was filled with an overwhelming sense of love.

And other times - as I’m sure you can understand - it’s super tough.
He has a meltdown and doesn’t want to put his jacket on... or he refuses to eat anything but chips for dinner.

(Although, I’m sort of with him on that one ;)

I’m guessing it’s the same with having a dog, cat, or other pet:

They bring you joy and you love them so much... but there are tough parts too.

I mean, picking up poop in the rain?!

Trying to get your cat to take a tablet (yeesh)... or finding a sitter when everyone is busy.

How does this relate to success?

The thing is, it’s the same with your goal or project:

There are gonna be awesome moments (yay!)

But there are gonna be tough times; times when you wonder what you’re doing... what you signed up for...

And we need this balance.

We need the good times and the bad.

So if you’re focused on the results of your project - maybe getting that book deal, or landing your 30th client - think about this:

Are you balancing it with the hard work?

Are you doing the work you need to do, to create the success you want?

‘Cause if you’re only doing the easy tasks, or not really pushing yourself... you can’t expect the big, sexy rewards.

Only dipping into your project and not really committing?

Then you’ll have some success... but it will likely be limited.

Wanting amazing results, but not planning or being strategic about how you’ll get there?

How much further would you get if you approached it more seriously?

Something to think about today...

Remember the idea of balance, as you go about your day:

  • The highs and lows that come with having children or pets.

  • The hard work you put in, to achieve the life you really want.

  • And – just as important – the rest you take, so you can regroup and come back feeling refreshed.

Now I’m not an expert in this... I’m learning along the way.

Will you learn with me?

As always, I’d love to know your thoughts.

What do you need more balance with in your life – and what is working well for you?

And at the end of the day, know that whatever you do, if you’re striving and learning and growing, you are Pretty. Damn. Awesome :)

Chips for dinner, heehee.:-)

We had a death in the family that slowed me down a bit, but I found that if I aim for something I know I can do (write just one page, write for just 45 minutes, edit just one poem) then I get a sense of accomplishment in a tough time plus, once in a while, I surprise myself and write/edit a lot more than I thought I could. So, it's been a good strategy during this grieving stage.

Ah Priscilla, I'm so sorry to hear that. My condolences to you and your family. Of course, things like that will have a big impact on our lives. But your strategy is fantastic - I totally agree. Set small goals that don't feel overwhelming, and once we get started, we often end up doing more. Good for you, and I'm glad you're able to have that sense of accomplishment to keep you going during a difficult time. Sending big hugs xo
