I’ll jump in right away with this one: Following your dreams isn’t always sexy. Nope.
Well, okay – it can be, sometimes. Getting a book deal. Receiving comments on your blog from strangers. Running your first 10k and totally blitzing the time you were going for... Yes, these are all lovely, warm moments. But there’s another side as wel. The not-so-sexy side. Which can feel frustrating and make us feel like we want to give up... When you’re at the gym and your face is red and you have sweat running down your top and you’re finding it hard to breathe. The hours before your first gig when you’re lugging your amp up three flights of stairs and you realize you just locked your keys in the car. Or when you run your first event and three people show up, and you feel tired and small and like quitting. No, not every moment of following a dream is sexy. But goddammit, it is worth it! See, all these moments are important. We need them all – good and bad. We learn from the bad. (And it keeps us humble.) So don’t worry if it’s not as sexy as you thought it would be. It wasn’t meant to be sexy! It was meant to be life-changing, and gut-wrenching. And a little bit confusing. And also amazing. So put "sexy" aside for now. Any google search of gorgeous celebrities looking not-so-hot will show you that even superstars have un-sexy times as well… So forget about sexy. Just go for getting those little tasks done… one by one, bit by bit. And celebrate your small wins along the way.
