Today I wanted to share a tip that has been helping me.
It comes from Jen Dziura, who runs Get Bullish (the online community where I work as an accountability coach).
Jen was talking about ditching things that aren’t pleasurable or productive... and I thought, “This is PERFECT!”
Pleasurable or productive... and everything else can go!
Because I take issue with a lot of the things that are written about productivity - especially that we should try to be productive every second of every day.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t do that... I’m human!
I’m not a machine. I can’t get up at 5am and do “productive things”, one after the other, until bedtime.
(Besides, I like to relax... a lot!)
But the idea of doing things that are pleasurable or productive... well, that’s more my cup of tea.
Because all of sudden the focus isn’t just: “What did you accomplish today?”
It's: “How did you enjoy today? What did you do that made you feel good?”
And that – for me – is what life’s about.
Not just results and data.
But feelings and taking care of ourselves.
This mantra has helped me reduce mindless, unhelpful actions too.
I was about to open up an acquaintance’s Facebook page (purely to be nosey - I haven’t spoken to her for years!)
But when I looked at it from the slant of “pleasurable or productive”:
What about you - are the things in YOUR life pleasurable or productive?
What could you get rid of that is neither of the two?
You can share in the comments, or pop me an email. Or just head off to make your day more pleasurable/productive!
I’m grateful - as always - to you have you here :)
