Over the course of this year I’ve unsubscribed from a ton of newsletters. Some I didn’t read any more; others I had outgrown. But some were bloggers whose work I used to love! So what happened?
Well, as I reflected on who does still make an appearance in my inbox, I realized I’d unsubscribed from anyone who didn’t seem genuine. Anyone who I felt wasn’t being themselves. (It’s funny... we can generally pick up on those things, eh?) People who were trying too hard... people trying to be something they weren’t... or wanting to portray a certain image. My reaction... Click! Unsubscribe ;) Because that’s what I aim for on my blog: To be me. Genuinely, “me”. (As the saying goes: I’m better at being that than anyone else! ;) The best thing about being genuine is that you don’t have to pretend when you go anywhere. You can go to an event... and just be yourself. You can write an email... just as you would write it. You’re probably aware of this when you’re with people you feel genuinely at ease with:
So if there’s one thing I’d love you to think about as we enter the new year, it’s this: How can you be more genuinely you? What does being “you” look like? [If you were being fake, how would friends spot it? What would they call you out on: pretending to like football... laughing at an offensive comment... wearing clothes that aren’t really “you”?] I get that we can’t always be the FULL version of ourselves (in front of the company president, for example). But if we have people around us we can be ourselves with for the most part.... well, I think that’s Pretty. Darn. Awesome :) Here’s to having genuine people in our life. And to an exciting new decade! Claire ❤ PS - If you're new to this blog: WELCOME! Drop me a line and let me know a little bit about yourself and your goals - I'd love to hear! :)
