Hey there! I went to a “gratitude and calligraphy” workshop at the weekend. We reflected on our year... and then wrote some of our key words in calligraphy (in case you wondered how the two connected!) While I was there, we did an exercise I found really interesting:
The instructor asked us how we would summarize our year. But not with a "word of the year"... she asked us to think about the chapter of our life that 2019 represented. If we were to assign a chapter heading to this year, what would it be? It got me thinking: I love the idea of chapters of our life. And after the workshop, I started thinking about what the various chapters of my life would be. My little exercise...
Most of the chapters sounded totally cheesy (but that’s okay; it’s just for me). For example, the current chapter of my life is called, “Grateful and growing” ;) But there were some interesting ones. One chapter, I called “tough”. (I’m sure you’ve had a chapter or two in your life like that!) And one slightly dramatic one was titled “All comes crashing down”. (But don’t worry; that chapter is followed by “WAHEY! Life is good” :) My learning from this... As you’d expect, I've had ups and downs in my life - like everyone. I’ve had awesome times and, frankly, quite crappy times. (Like the time I had my handbag and its entire contents stolen, just before I moved abroad.) But here’s the thing: that IS life! Ups and downs. Highs and lows. It genuinely is a rollercoaster! And I think that’s how it’s meant to be.
Just enjoy those good times and keep learning, so you have some awesome resources for when the not-so-good times hit! Over to you now... why not give this exercise a try? What would the chapter headings of YOUR life be called? Any you feel like sharing? I wonder what the next chapter heading of my life will be. Hopefully something like: “Woweeeee!”... (or at least, "Hmm, that was unexpected..." :) With love, Claire ❤

I have some funny chapters like "I Want Some Sleep!" (when my daughter was a baby). I have some sad chapters, of course. I have some big-accomplishment chapters like "That Was Hard Work But Worth It!" Then there's the high-romance chapters, "I Loooove You!" I'd say this year has been "The Thrill of Learning" for all that I've learned about the fun and challenging craft of writing.

Hey Priscilla, I love this! So many good chapters! (And like you say, sad ones too, of course.) I can relate to the "I Want Some Sleep" chapter, haha :) A life containing big accomplishments and high romance sounds pretty awesome to me. And yay for the thrill of learning - very cool! Thanks for sharing some of your chapters!
